COURSE INFORMATION SHEET 9:  Electro Technology

What is Electro Technology?
Electro Technology helps develop  the knowledge and skills required to be a competent electrician.

What qualities will I need?
You will need to have some mathematical ability - you will need to be able to calculate voltages and amps to ensure an electrical system is safe. You will need to be able to work methodically and carefully in sometimes confined and uncomfortable places. Electrical connections can be small and ‘fiddly' and you will need to develop skills to work accurately with small equipment. You will need to have completed the Level 1 course in ‘Applying Engineering Principles' before starting this course.

What will I need to wear?
Overalls will be necessary when on practical activities. You may also be required to wear safety boots and hat.

What range of courses are available?
This is a Level 2 course and it will qualify you to do a skilled job once you have had a little more experience. You will need to have completed Level 1 PEO to be accepted on to this level course.

What opportunities will this course open for me?
Most Electro Technology students will progress on to an apprenticeship or work with a company that will offer further training. Some with Level 2 will find work in offices in a junior position until they have gained experience. You may want to continue into Further Education and gain a Level 3 qualification. This could lead to Higher Education.
