COURSE INFORMATION SHEET 16:   Motor Vehicle Studies

What is Motor Vehicle Studies?
We have an ever-increasing number of cars on our roads today. These cars need to be serviced, maintained and kept safe. TVC Motor Vehicle courses will introduce you to the knowledge and help you to develop the skills necessary to become an expert motor vehicle technician.

What qualities will I need?
You will need more than a box of spanners! You will need to develop very good hand skills and have the determination to get a difficult bolt removed from a very inconvenient position. There will be some calculations so some Mathematics ability would help. Increasingly computers are being used to diagnose faults and E Skills are becoming more and more important.

What will I need to wear?
You will need to wear overalls and safety boots. For some activities goggles or eye protection will be needed.

What range of courses are available?
Through the TVC there are two Motor Vehicle courses and entry is dependant upon your achievements when you start the course. There are:

Entry Level courses for those with few GCSE passes and need to develop basic skills.

Level 1 courses which will qualify you to do a basic job and may lead to an apprenticeship

Level 2 courses prepare you for high level apprenticeships

What opportunities will this course open for me?
Most Motor Vehicle students will progress on to an apprenticeship or work with a garage that will offer further training.  It will also be possible to continue to the next level through further education.
