The Plymouth Vision for 14-19 Learning "By 2010, all young people in Plymouth will enjoy participating and achieving in lifelong learning, through programmes that meet their individual needs and continued beyond the age of 19".
Introduction
The Tamar Valley Consortium, in line with the current climate of change in the 14-19 curriculum, aims to accommodate greater flexibility and choice for individuals by providing a breadth of range of vocational and work related opportunities through collaboration across schools, colleges and training providers. Further it seeks to ensure high quality outcomes through a focus on the provision of a fully coherent programme, appropriate selection and recruitment procedures and measures to encourage retention, completion and progression to further study, training or employment.
Objectives
1. To contribute to the achievement of national targets for education and training.
2. To secure the employment prospects, education and skills base of young people, including those with special educational needs and future maintenance needs.
3. To promote equality of opportunity in all its applications.
Possible alternatives
1. To contribute to raising expectations and learner achievement of all young people up to age 19 in Plymouth taking into account diversity of need and learning preferences.
2. To increase learner participation and ensure high retention rates, nationally recognised accredited outcomes and clear progression routes.
3. To ensure appropriate support and guidance to meet the needs and aspirations of all students.
4. To expand the provision as appropriate to the needs of the individual and the local economy within limits of Section 96 list
5. To ensure relevance and quality of provision through rigorous monitoring and evaluation.
6. To ensure that developments are in line with current local and national strategy.
7. To promote and expand collaborative work across the City, through regular reviews of distribution and take up of learning and to seek to extend capacity as necessary.
