We are on the move!
From September 2011 the TVC will become part of the Plymouth Learning Trust and will move to new premises. This is an exciting new development that will take TVC forward into a new era. We thank Plymouth City Council that has given us a good home through the last decade. The TVCs success and expansion is largely due to the support it has received from the local authority. From 1st september the TVC office will be within Healthtec on Forresters Business Park. Telephone and email address will change - please see the contact page.
TVC Celebration Day 2011 on 6th July at Plymouth Pavillions was the event of the year
Nearly 80 young people crossed the big stage to collect awards and shake the hand of Lord Mayor Cllr Peter Brookshaw. Lady Mayoress Brenda Brookshaw and Leader of the council Cllr Vivian Pengelly presented some of the special awards. Antony Jman, Polar Explorer gave an inspiring address: "If you are from Plymouth their are no limits!"
Becky Eyres and Daniel Halling of Eggbuckland Community College were the stars of the show. Poppy Mills and Lipson Community College's Rebecca Senior sang at last years event. Poppy has since cut a CD!

New Providers
Three new training providers join the TVC for the new academic year (2010-2011).
SR Training is based on a farm at Bush near Saltash. The new to TVC provider is currently providing successful training to Cornish Schools. It will be offering Entry Level Horticulture to TVC students as well as Level 1 Animal Care from September. This is a working farm that offers real hands on experience with plants and animals in small groups. A pick up from Saltash is possible for those student coming from Plymouth on the bus!
The Traini-ing Station is cited on the Forresters Business Park at Estover. It shares the top floor of the building that Health Tec first used with the Business Centre. The newly equipped provider offers Hair and Beauty courses to TVC learners and Construction options in an adjacent building.
Marjon Open Learning Unit situated within University College Plymouth St Mark and St John is offering a range of ICT qualifications from Level 1 - 3. Excellent facilities and close support set within the higher education institution.
Funding TVC in 2010
Building the TVC catalogue for September 2010 has proved a challenge with many of the traditional TVC courses reaching their expiry date this year and the new QCF replacements taking some time to be released. Updates have been released almost weekly this term. A TVC funding review has taken place and the resulting paper can be downloaded from the Partners Page.
The TVC is prepared to meet the requirements of the National Learning Pathways which are being introduced as part of the 14-19 reforms. The newly published TVC catalogue (Sept 2010/2011) will feature 90+ different qualifications from the Qualification and Credit Framework which will fit the Vocational Learning component of the Foundation Learning Pathway. Seven TVC partners (Coombe Dean CC, Eggbuckland CC, Estover CC, John Kitto Academy, Lipson CC, Mount Tamar School and Notre Dame CC) are piloting Foundation Learning and working with the Regional FL Advisor to develop fully integrated programmes that include TVC courses.

The YMCA TVC Level 3 Public Services Group were praised when they supported the Plymouth 'Playground to Podium' event recently. The event, held on 15th March was a part of a programme to address the fact, that at present only a quarter of 16 - 19 years olds with a disability play sport regularly. The TVC group who were supporting the event were praised for their enthusiasm. Special recommendations went to Ed Gibbins of Stoke Damerel Community College and Lyoyd Russell of Tamarside Community College who were described as being 'absolutely brilliant at working with young people' by County Sports Development Officer, Jim Borrow.

Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Councillor Ken Foster and Mrs Wendy Foster attended the TVC Training fair and were delighted to see the wide range of learning opportunities available to Plymouth's Young People. They are seen above with Fiona Aitkin and Robert Mountjoy at the Guildhall event on Wednesday 20th January. This year the Fair included a display by the National Apprenticeship Service as the TVC has been acknowledged as benificial preparation for apprentices. "Achieving an apprecticeship is the goal that we want many of our learners to set for themselves," The TVC Director told the Mayor.
Breakfast Club and Widening Choices at PSC
PSC Training and Development, one of TVC's longest serving providers have now opened a Breakfast Club for young learners at their Langage base. Learners arriving early (8.00 am - 8.45 am) can enjoy a free breakfast while waiting for their training sessions to begin. Tea, toast, cereals and fruit provide a good start to a productive day in the classrooms and workshops. Snap, crackle and pop!
Widening Choices is a new project introduced by PSC. It aims to make under represented groups aware of the choices available to them within the Plymouth range of options. The free offer to schools include tasters, presentations and visits to the workshops with the aim of encouraging young people to think beyond their immediate horizons. (ie. avoiding gender stereotypes and overcoming barriers) Contact Shelly or Sarah if interested.

2008/9 Results now in - it was another record breaking year!
TVC results for the academic year 2008/9 were exceptional once again. The final analysis shows that 78% gained a full award (learning aim) and a record 92% gained a partial award (units towards their learning aim). We take these results as confirmation that i-Plymouth tracking is working to raise achievement to new levels. September 2009
The last TVC Training Fair was held on the 21st January 2009 at the Guildhall. It was a great success with over 500 young people attending and learning about the TVC options. Update - Training Fair 2010 will combine with INSPIRE at Plymouth University in November.

The TVC is piloting an innovative and exciting means of tracking students engaged in learning over a number of providers and sites. The i-Plymouth e-Tracking project is being developed by Webbased and is being used with the current cohort of TVC learners. The on line registration and reporting system interlocks with the citywide eILP and allows staff and students to monitor progress and set targets. We have over 1,000 learners from 17 schools learning with 20 different providers - this is the only way we can communicate effectively and fully support each and every student. Attendance monitoring was tested in the Autumn of 2007 and will roll out in 2008 with progress monitoring.
